How to Keep Your Plants Healthy on Vacation

A long vacation is a great opportunity to travel and explore, but what if you have houseplants that need your attention while you’re away? If you don’t want to come back to dead plants or wilted leaves, here are six tips for caring for your plants while on vacation. Luckily, this blog post is here for your needs! We’ll teach you how to water houseplants while on vacation (hint: just keep them in a sunny place), plus some other tips that will help them stay happy and healthy during your time away.

Glass Globes

If you are taking a long vacation and need your plants watered while you are away, then this is the post for you. There are several ways to water your plant while on vacation such as using a drip system or setting up an automatic watering system. However, if those options aren’t available to you, then I have something that might work better: glass globes! These come in all shapes and sizes so they can fit with any decor style; they’re also very easy to use because they don’t require any special knowledge or equipment. All you do is fill the globe up with water and place it in your plants soil. They even come in little shapes like hearts, birds and my favorite, swans!

As your plant needs water it pulls more out of the globe. These are usually good for 3-5 days

Watering Spikes

Self watering spikes are perfect for those of us who need their plants watered while away. You control the drip speed and can set it to water your plants at a pace that suits you and your plants best. This way, if you have very thirsty plants, they’ll get enough water without overwatering delicate ones! It’s also a great option for anyone with limited mobility or an aversion to getting dirty hands from gardening tasks like weeding. I love knowing my houseplants will be taken care of while I’m gone on vacation! So don’t worry about how much time off you’re taking this year because these self-watering spikes will help keep your garden alive and well in your absence!

Spikes where you control the drip are able to be adjusted. For a 20 second drip, a 1 liter bottle should drip for about 5 days, which should be perfect for a 7-10 day trip, depending on how often you water your plants.

Automatic watering

Now if you will be away for longer or have plants that like to be watered regularly, an automatic drip watering system may be the answer. These systems use drip irrigation to water up to 15 plants with water drawn from a bucket or pale.

Automatic watering systems are programmable for how long they run and how often for up to 30 days, so even if you’re gone a month or more your plants will be watered. Automatic drip irrigation is especially great for plant types that need constant moisture like tropicals and succulents as the system can water them every day without overwatering!

Another benefit is you have a much larger water reserve to draw from. The larger the reserve the longer it will run.

One key thing to remember about these however is that the level of the reservoir has to be below where the plant being watered once started otherwise it will syphon out until both levels are equalized.

Automatic watering systems provide peace of mind when leaving your precious plants behind!

Automatic watering systems are one way to keep your plants healthy while you’re away from home for more than one week, as they can be programmed to water up to 30 days in advance and can run multiple times per day depending on what type of plant needs it most – tropicals or succulents need frequent watering so an automatic drip irrigation system will work best for them!

Conclusion

You’ve spent all of this time getting your plants to look just right and now you have to leave for a week-long vacation. What will happen if you don’t water them? If they get too dry, the roots can die or turn brown and crispy. The leaves might start yellowing from a lack of nutrients in the soil. One way around this is by using a watering globe which releases enough moisture into the air so no one has to touch their precious garden again! Water globes release a small amount of water for 3-5 days generally. Water spikes are adjustable and can supply water for about a week with a 1 liter bottle. Automatic watering systems are able to water several plants at a time on a regular schedule and are programmable for how long they run and how often, up to 30 days.

However long you plan to be gone one of these systems should keep your plants healthy and happy while your away!
