A lot of people think that traveling is all about getting from point A to Point B as quickly and cheaply as possible. But if you’ve ever been on a long flight or bus ride where you were sitting next to someone who was miserable the entire time, it’s clear that this can’t be true! If your goal when traveling is not only to get there but also have fun in the process, then these travel tips are for you.
Not everything will go as expected
.Travelers are going to have a bad day every now and then. And it’s okay! It happens, even when you’re not on vacation. Sometimes things just go wrong like getting delayed at the airport or having your luggage lost for twenty hours. You can’t control everything that goes on in life so why let something like travel upset you.
There are so many opportunities for adventure when things go wrong while traveling: dealing with lost luggage, getting told the bus just left without waiting for anyone else, accidentally buying two plane tickets… The list goes on! And even if your trip doesn’t have any major mishaps, there will still be plenty of ways to enjoy yourself.
The best part? You’ll get stories out of both kinds; ones where nothing went wrong and those where something did happen which turned into an experience or adventure in its own right.
It’s not an adventure until something goes wrong
Traveling is not supposed to be perfect and it’s these types of situations that can actually make our trips memorable. Missed your flight so you took the train and met new people and had an amazing time? Wanted to see the city but your tour guide was a no show so you set out on your own and found something even better? Whatever it is, these unplanned “setbacks” are what make your stories about your trips memorable.
I was on vacation last week and by the time I got to my hotel, it was almost dark out. That’s when I decided that instead of sitting in my room all night, I should explore the area around me. So what did I do? After looking up a map online, walking for about an hour or so and taking some pictures along the way, I took myself back to dinner at this amazing little restaurant with really good food and great company.
Try different food
Even if your not a ‘foodie’, try something new while traveling. You never know what you might find.
Have an open mind and don’t fear the unknown!
Traveling to unfamiliar places can be fun, even if it’s just for a day trip or weekend getaway. Start by asking locals where they would go in your area as well as researching popular restaurants (or other attractions) on Yelp and TripAdvisor. These reviews will help steer you away from tourist traps that aren’t worth your time, but also provide helpful tips on the best places to try new things like regional cuisine, exotic snacks off of street vendors, local beers brewed with spices native to different regions around the world or unusual cuts of meat not commonly found at American restaurants back home. There are many options out there.
